The Steps

The following steps will help identify how to measure management success:

  1. Clearly identify the desired conservation outcome(s) and related management objective(s).

  2. Identify measures of success that will determine if the management actions have achieved their objective.

  3. Identify environmental and/or socioeconomic parameters that will be monitored to demonstrate a successful outcome.

  4. Design and implement a monitoring program aimed at measuring the change in these parameters as a result of the management action. This will require monitoring replicate sites both inside and outside the MPA, and both prior to and after the management action.

  5. Develop a plan to share the results with stakeholders.
